S/S 15

Long time no post, eh?
Apologies for being away from my blog for so long.
I'm (semi) back, taking a small break from my study block to light up your screen with an outfit post :~)

Uni is catching up to me, and I think I'll be buried into my laptop (as if I'm usually not) for the next 2 weeks to smash through the mid sem assessments - mid sem break I am so, so ready for you.

Okay, back to the good stuff. Here are some stills from my spring outfits video, enjoy ~

Bye!

See You Soon.

I don't think there has ever been a time when I've not enjoyed a trip to an art gallery.I had such a relaxed day with Lana. The reality of her departure was approaching very fast, so we did what we do best; late lunches, long chats about life, coffee and being total idiots in public. Here are a couple photos from our day + lana's amazing outfit (her bag !!!)

/ I wish the best for you in Melbourne and I'm so so proud of what you've achieved, you adult you. Our coffee and donut dates will be deeply missed, but I know you'll have donuts waiting for me when I come down.  Love u 4eva ~ N /

A World Away.

When many people think of Bali, they think of cheap alcohol, a bustling night life, fake designer handbags and multimillion dollar resorts. Behind all the tourist mayhem lies a lush, beautiful island with so much culture and diversity. It is also my heritage with my mother being Balinese, meaning I get a completely different experience of Bali in comparison to the thousands of tourists that visit each year. This post is a collection of photos I took on our road trip around Bali and Lombok, capturing the different terrains and areas such a small island like bali has to offer.

Offerings to the Gods. Bali is one of the only places in Indonesia that still practice Hinduism. Incense is lit every morning, and you will see them along side the offerings everywhere you go (including inside shopping malls.) Bali always smells fragrant because of this, and it's something you notice the minute you arrive.

We took a scenic, quiet route on our way to Kintamani, which means we passed through very traditional villages. Couldn't help but to tell dad to stop the car once I saw these traditional women walking past. It helped that mum also came out of the car with me and talked to them as well haha. It was a perfect moment.

On the side of Kintamani, up in the clouds. Misty everywhere and 15 degrees. Started the journey to go up the mountain at 30 degree weather. After an hour of driving it was so cold we needed to turn off the air-conditioning.

The bottom of Mount Batur. It looks like a grave yard due to the molten rock that spewed out of Mount Batur. The whole area is just rocks and shrubs, kinda spooky but kinda cool too.

Hot springs at the bottom of Mount Batur, Next to Lake Batur.

Some shots at a coffee stop on the way home from Mount Batur through Kintamani.  It just so happens that it was raining, and a rainbow appeared - good timing hey?

Pit stop at a random "Art Zoo" we found on the side of the road. This was an interesting moment in our trip. We walked into this studio packed with paintings, portraits and paint everywhere. There was no one to greet us, but we could hear conversation coming from stairs up to an old house above the studio. Turns out a resident artist and his assistant (I'm going to say assistant I wasn't too sure who he was) lived in this house, covered in his paintings. He treated his home as a gallery and let us walk through, seeing where he slept, ate and worked. He had this beautiful view of the sea from the roof of his house (which I bravely walked on) and told us stories about his life briefly before we had to go. We were all so confused after we left, "what was that?", "who was he?", "What did I just experience?". #travelling.

Tanah Lot! 2nd Time going, its so pretty (but so so humid)

Black sand on the shores of Lombok, took this before taking the boat over to the Gili's. Lombok is the neighbouring island to Bali, about 4 hours by slow ferry. Along the shores of Lombok lie a cluster of islands called the Gili's,  famous for their clear water, white sand and coral reefs.

One coastline of Lombok.

Snorkelling with my brother. A lot of fun but also a bit depressing. A lot of the coral was dead and not as much wildlife as I expected. I did see one turtle and many stone fish (eek!), but seeing all that dead coral, ahh. It hit me hard. You hear a lot about how pollution is effecting the environment etc etc. But seeing it in front of you is a lot different I guess.

My view from the boat.

Clear water. So clear you can see the shadows of the coral.

My window seat view of the sunset, homebound from Bali to Brisbane. Bali is like a second home now that I've been there 3 times. After this trip, I'm more determined to learn the language so I can learn more about the culture and actually speak to my relatives, maybe even do a 6 week language course, anything is possible I guess. Travelling inspires you y'know?

Bali you were bliss!

Until next time,

NYE Look Book.

3 Days away from the new year and I decide to make a lookbook. HA. (how scary that we are so close to 2015). I took a motion graphics unit for uni last semester, where I learnt to use After Effects. I loved it so much, so I thought "why not do some more stuff like that?". Combine that with my interest in fashion and bam u got urself a lookbook.

I definitely think I'll incorporate more motion graphics into my future videos, I've just been working non stop so I've only had a couple of days to film, edit and put this together ;(

Nevertheless, have a watch and observe how awkward I am on camera haha.

Thrifting Tips & Finds.

Hey yall! I've been absent on this blog for a while with work and uni consuming my life for the past month. But I've decided to make a commitment to this blog, so I'll be posting fashion and design related things for the time being!
This past week I've visited a couple different thrift stores and thought I would share my buys. I've been thrifting for a while now and I'd say I'm pretty okay at finding decent items hidden in the mass of terrible, terrible clothes.  A couple tips I have for thrifting is to 1: look through all the racks - even if the rack isn't your size or gender. I've found great jumpers which I use as dresses in the mens section, while I find a lot of tops in the plus size section which I turn into crop tops.

2: You have to be critical.
When I find a potential piece, I always ask myself "Will I wear this a lot? How can I wear this?". The worst feeling is buying a piece that you tried on in store, thinking you'll wear it a lot but getting home and tossing it into your wardrobe never to be seen again. I've done that a lot. It sucks.

3: If you're a local, know your store!!
Sometimes stores have specials on certain days where items are cheaper (than the already cheap price). This way you can plan out when you go and get the most for your moola.

4: Pick, try, then Narrow.
I typically spend a long time narrowing down my items because I hate wasting time and money on something I won't use. Today, I initially had 10 items in my hands after my first way around the store. After trying them all on, I had 2 left. I think it's better to grab what you potentially could buy and try it on then leave it on the rack and go back to it when you're done looking around the store.

Well, there were a couple of tips I have for thrift shopping, hopefully they will help you on you thrifting adventures (?).
Below are a couple of items I bought from two different stores. Now, prepare yourselves for how cheap I got them. Be ready.

American Apparel crop top - $4.00
Nike T-Shirt - $5.00
AWH Top - $6.00

My heart skipped a beat when I saw how cheap the AA top was, oh my god. These items were hidden treasures and I know I'm going to wear them all throughout summer. I definitely recommend everyone go thrifting at least once in your life. It's not as gross as you think - a couple washes of your clothes and you're good to go. I hope I inspired you to thrift!

Thanks for reading y'all,

Niss.

Melbourne | Part 3

The last part. Mostly photos of food and friends - this trip was more of a shopping and eating trip than a sightseeing trip. On the last day we met up with Linda (thenekoqueen) and Hee-Won (wonwonnie), two girls who did also did the Hundred Project with me. It was so nice to actually meet them in person and they are both so nice and pretty irl (omfg).  I'm not too good at writing so I'll end it here(lol). Thanks for a lovely time Melbourne, I'll definitely be back soon.

Kinfolk - such relaxing vibes in this cafe, could legit spend all day here.

Katie! Met up with an old friend living in Melbourne.

7PM at night but the walls are darker than the sky. Hmmm I like it here.

I don't even know how this happened with a phone camera but I like it.
